Power back on in Wellington suburb

06:45 am on 10 June 2015

Power has been restored to more than 1800 people in 60 different streets in the Wellington suburb of Newlands, after an area fault.

Wellington Electricity says the blackout happened shortly before 5am and affected about 60 streets, but they were not sure if it was weather that had caused it.

A resident said she saw power lines on Cheltenham Terrace arcing, with sparks coming off them, earlier this morning.
