Vanuatu to choose president on September 17th

The Chief Justice has announced that Vanuatu will elect its new president on September the 17th.

Iolu Johnson Abil's four-year term as head of state ended this week.

The electoral office says so far 20 people have submitted their applications which close on September the 9th.

The 58 member Electoral College, which is composed of the MPs and the presidents of the six provincial governments, will sit on the 17th to elect the seventh president.

The speaker of parliament, Philip Boedoro, is the acting president.
