Community garden keen to adopt organic food label

21:47 pm on 2 August 2011

A Maori community garden in Hastings wants to adopt a new indigenous organic food label.

The standard Hua Parakore was launched by the National Maori Organics Authority, Te Waka Kai Ora, in Wellington on Monday.

Aunty's Garden, which accepts koha or donations, takes up 0.8 of a hectare and is in the process of adopting the label.

A co-ordinator, Arohanui Lawrence, supports Hua Parakore because it follows Maori tikanga, or protocol.
