Spring might be slightly warmer than usual, with National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) data showing average or above average temperatures are likely.
NIWA has released its climate outlook for the next three months, which shows there is a 40-45 percent chance temperatures will be average or above average.
Rainfall is also predicted to be at normal spring levels.
NIWA said the chance of an El Nino, when the winds were stronger and drought was more likely in the east, had decreased to a 55 percent chance.
