Tahiti man probed over Covid-19 record forgery

A resident returning to French Polynesia has been placed in isolation amid suspicion that he entered Tahiti using forged health records.

The French High Commission said the individual arrived on a commercial flight from France on 4 July.

It said he had been placed into isolation and subject to a Covid-19 test which was negative.

The High Commission said an investigation was underway into alleged forgery of biological analysis and falsifying a required document.

If charged and found guilty, the man risks being fined up to $US50000 and imprisonment.

Meanwhile, the French Polynesian government has decided to make the wearing of masks on public transport compulsory for anyone over the age of 11.

Breaches can incur fines of up to $US850.
