A person on Waiheke Island has tested positive for Covid-19.
Waiheke Local Board chairperson Cath Handley says health authorities informed her of the case this afternoon.
She says it is the first case to be diagnosed on the island, and they are waiting to hear if there are any locations of interest.
In a social media post, Handley wrote that for most on the island it "will be a shock, but perhaps no surprise".
She wrote that she could not provide more details until official information came from the Ministry of Health, Auckland District Health Board or Waiheke Medical Centre.
Today there are 94 new community cases of Covid-19 in the country.
