Police crackdown on water fights in Iran

19:46 pm on 6 September 2011

Iran police say people involved in water fights in public places will be charged.

Hundreds of young men and women have been spraying each other with water guns in a number of cities recently, the BBC reports.

A police chief has accused what he describes as counter-revolutionaries of being behind the water fights.

The events, organised on social networks online, express a boisterous youth culture that the Iranian authorities see as a threat.

Acting head of police General Ahmad Radan accused the organisers of trying to break customs and said those responsible would be put on trial.
