The Southland rugby side turned in a mighty defensive effort to beat Waikato 7-6 in their provincial match in Hamilton on Thursday night.
Waikato attacked for most of the game but simply could not find a way through the Southland defence.
Kendrick Lynn scored the only try of the match for Southland after 10 minutes and it was 7-6 at half-time.
Waikato missed four penalty attempts that could have won the game.
The win takes Southland back to the top of the standings in the provincial championship.
