Matatū have beaten Hurricanes Poua 43-24 in a try-laden Super Rugby match at Trentham this afternoon.
The South Islanders started better with two early tries and after 24 minutes were 26-7 ahead, before the Poua narrowed the gap with two tries before halftime.
They got within two points of Matatū early in the second half, but their opponents were the more effective closers at the end of the match, scoring the last three tries of the match. In all, Matatū scored seven tries to the Poua's four.
The bonus point win sees Matatū draw level with the Blues at the top of the table, but the Blues can go further ahead if they beat Chiefs Manawa in today's late game.
