Nintendo has reported a slump in sales and in profits due to a strong yen and a drop in sales.

Net profit at the video games company for the year to the end of March fell 66% to 77.6 billion yen. Sales fell 29% to 1.014 trillion yen.

The BBC reports Nintendo has also been struggling with waning interest for its Wii games console.

It has announced that it will release a successor to the Wii in 2012.

Nintendo has also introduced the 3DS, a hand-held 3D console. It says worldwide sales for the device total 3.6 million.
