New Zealand won two medals in athletics at the Commonwealth Games on Friday.

Nikki Hamblin, 22, finished second in the 1500-metres event in a time of 4-minutes and 5.97 seconds, seven-tenths of a second behind Nancy Langat of Kenya, who set a Games record.

In the decathlon, Brent Newdick also won silver, following a strong second day.

Newdick did not finish lower than fourth in any of the final-day events. He managed two third places, in the discus and 110-metre hurdles, and second in the pole vault.
