Police are making inquiries after responding to a sudden death in Silverdale, north of Auckland, this afternoon.
In a statement, Detective Inspector Callum McNeill said the death was being treated as unexplained.
A second person was transported to hospital in a serious condition, he said.
"Police are still in the very early stages of making enquiries as to the circumstances of what has occurred.
"We can reassure the community we are not currently seeking anyone else in relation," McNeill said.
