The Cook Strait ferry Kaitaki's 8pm sailing from Wellington to Picton will go ahead today after a mechanical problem was fixed.
An issue involving a valve in ferry's bottom compartment not functioning properly prevented the Kaitaki from sailing earlier today.
Engineers had worked on resolving the problem since early in the morning, Interislander spokesperson Michael Flyger said.
A 2pm sailing of the Aratere between Picton and Wellington alleviated the backlog caused by the cancellation.
The Arahura is in Auckland for bi-annual maintenance, meaning the Interislander fleet was reduced to one vessel today.
