Air Vanuatu has engaged an airport assessor from Australia to inspect the remediation works at Bauerfield airport, once completed.
The Daily Post reports the company says remediation work began on Tuesday and is expected to take four days.
Air Vanuatu says they are monitoring the progress and continue to work with the airport authority to ensure continued safe operation.
The assessor arrived in Port Vila on Wednesday.
The airport authority did minor repair work on Monday afternoon after staff spotted a gap opening up in part of the runway.
Air service into the airport was delayed.
Air New Zealand is still not flying into Bauerfield and this week Virgin Australia announced it was halting its Vanuatu flights indefinitely.
