At the High Court in Auckland today, Millie Elder-Holmes, daughter of late broadcaster Sir Paul Holmes, has recounted the night her partner Connor Morris was killed last year.

Michael Murray is on trial for the murder of Mr Morris during a street fight in west Auckland in August 2014. He has denied the charge.

Ms Elder-Holmes told the court she was about 10 to 15 metres away when she saw her partner drop to the ground.

"I just remember seeing him drop out of the corner of my eye and the way that he fell, I knew something was really wrong. He didn't put his hands out or anything, he fell back like he was unconscious and he hit his head quite hard on the ground when he fell."

She said she was screaming and ran to him.

She held his head in her hands and could feel his pulse, but blood was pouring out quickly.

After giving her evidence, she gave Mr Morris' parents a hug before leaving the courtroom.

The Crown is due to call evidence from 45 witnesses over four weeks.
