Five Canterbury community organisations will receive $25 million for earthquake-related projects.
The Canterbury Community Trust is donating the money to social housing, rebuild community fabric, event development and regional funds and to Ngai Tahu.
Trust chairperson Alec Neil says the largest portion donated to a singleorganisation, $10 million, will go to social housing in the city.
Mr Neil says after extensive research and discussions with city leaders the trust recognised social housing was badly damaged by the earthquake and was in desperate need of support.
About 100 people including Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee were expected to attend the funding announcement in Christchurch on Friday.
