Two people in a vehicle fleeing from police have been taken to hospital after crashing into another vehicle.
The passenger in the fleeing vehicle suffered moderate injuries, but the member of the public whose vehicle was hit did not suffer any injuries, police said.
Police received information about 3.35pm on Friday that a vehicle sought in relation to a fraud matter had been seen on State Highway 1, north of Bombay.
Area Commander for Counties Manukau South Inspector Joe Hunter said the vehicle was travelling south.
"Police signalled for the vehicle to stop, but the driver failed to stop, and the unit did not pursue.
"Minutes later, this vehicle has taken the Bombay off-ramp at speed and collided with a member of the public's vehicle on Mill Road."
While uninjured, "understandably, he is shaken by the consequences of the other driver's completely unacceptable actions this afternoon," Hunter said.
"The passenger of the fleeing vehicle has been taken to hospital with moderate injuries, with the driver also being taken for observations."
Driving-related charges were pending; the manner in which the driver got the vehicle was also being investigated.
Both are also facing "investigations relating to several additional offences".
The incident will also be referred to the Independent Police Conduct Authority.
Officers were still at the scene, and the public are being advised of traffic delays in the area.
Delays were expected as the long weekend began and police were appreciative of motorists' understanding as the scene was cleared, Hunter said.
