Counterfeit money reappears in Samoa

Counterfeit notes have begun to re-surface again in Samoa.

A Central Bank spokesperson, Malae Ali'iso'o, said the notes had begun to crop up in businesses and banks because people were not heeding advice to check notes carefully to make sure they were not forgeries.

He said people often passed off fake notes at shops with children staffing the counter.

The other areas where these notes were used were bars and night clubs, where low levels of light made it possible to hand over forged money.
