The victim is unable to verbally communicate and could not call out for help.

He was on the cycle pathway near the intersection of Jack Street and Miro Street in Otangarei on Anzac Day, Sunday 25 April, when he was approached two young men holding planks of wood.

Police said the victim was knocked unconscious and cash was stolen from his wallet.

He was eventually able to make his way home where he sent a text for an ambulance and was taken to hospital.

The two males were described as teenagers of Māori ethnicity, one taller and slimmer in build than the other. One also has a distinctive ginger stripe down the middle of his hair.

Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact police on 105, quoting file 210426/9966 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
