A tertiary education is no longer enough to guarantee you a job. So what are recruiters looking for when faced with a pile of CVs, and what can you do to make yourself stand out? The Wireless talked to recruiters at some of the best and most desirable workplaces in New Zealand.

One of advertising agency Clemenger BBDO’s mottos is “In the absence of great work, nothing else matters”. It describes itself as being in the business of commercial creativity, and has worked with some of the country’s biggest businesses and brands, including New Zealand Post and the New Zealand Transport Agency, for which it devised the now-infamous “ghost chips” bit and this recent drug-driving ad. It had seven nominations in this year's Effie Awards, and won two golds and a Purple Pin at the Best Awards for its Wellington in a Pint campaign and its interactive Flash driving game for NZTA. “It's still the most fun you can have with your clothes on,” says Sean Keaney, client service director at Clemenger BBDO, of working in the advertising industry.
