Critic says EQC survey suspect

A critic of the Earthquake Commission says an independent review into its handling of a customer satisfaction survey shouldn't be trusted, and doesn't make any difference for those affected.

Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee ordered a report into the Commission's systems after suggestions some homeowners were excluded from the survey.

A State Services Commission review has found the results were valid and reliable, with only 18 claims, out of 123,000 being omitted.

Bryan Staples, who used to work for the Commission and now advocates on behalf of its customers, says that's the answer everyone was expecting, and it makes no difference in the scheme of things.

"If you ask the question in the right way you're going to get the answer you want," he says.

However, Mr Staples says he likes one recommendation from the report - that a representative of the Earthquake Commission should sit in Mr Brownlee's office.
