Florence and The Machine: Last here back in 2012, Florence and The Machine are in the country for a one-off show at Vector Arena this Saturday. The all-ages performance comes off the back of a brief tour of Australia in support of their third and most recent album How Big How Blue How Beautiful. Tickets are available from Ticketmaster.
The 95bFM Bombathon: As part of their week-long Bombathon, 95bFM are fundraising for a few improvements to the station with a “non-stop carnival of broadcasting mayhem”. To top things off, they’ll be celebrating their 45th birthday with a party at Real Groovy this Saturday. As part of the event, they’ll be releasing Jesus I Was Evil - the 1996 EP from the late Darcy Clay - on vinyl for the very first time. There’ll also be an in-store performance from Darcy’s original band, with some special guest vocalists. Here’s everything you need to know.
Seth Frightening: Experimental folk musician Seth Frightening is about to embark on a six-date tour of New Zealand that begins this Friday in Wellington. The shows are to celebrate the vinyl release of his latest album But We Love Our Brothers And Sisters, which you can pre-order via Bandcamp, and he’ll be joined on all shows by Claire Duncan’s I.E. French For Rabbits and Grayson Gilmour: Local dream-folk outfit French For Rabbits are teaming up with eclectic indie songwriter Grayson Gilmour for a five-date tour beginning this Friday. First up, they’ll be playing at The Tuning Fork in Auckland before heading down South for two shows a piece at Orange Studio in Christchurch and Bats Theatre in Wellington. Triumphs: Dunedin underground duo Triumphs, who we recently featured as part of Introducing, are up in Auckland tonight to celebrate the release of their debut album Beekeeper/Bastardknocker. The boys are playing alongside other local acts Reaving and Greenfog, and they promise it’ll be a “loud/slow/doom laden night to remember for young and old alike”. Entry is $10 on the door.
DJ Yella: Renowned N.W.A. producer DJ Yella is bringing Straight Outta Compton and more West Coast classics to our shores for shows over the next few days. The former porn producer (true story) will begin his jaunt in Wellington this evening ahead of shows in Christchurch and Auckland over the next couple of days. Scoop up tickets through Non Stop.
Great North: Auckland-based alt-folk outfit Great North are in Wellington and Auckland over the next couple of nights to road-test some new material from their upcoming fourth album. The band play in Meow tonight before heading North for a show at The Wine Cellar on Friday evening, and they’ll be joined by gypsy-folk singer Reb Fountain.
