Musician Peter Gutteridge, often described as one of the pioneers of the Dunedin sound, is being remembered as a crazy genius who will be greatly missed, following his death this morning.
The record label, Flying Nun has confirmed Gutteridge died in Auckland.
He was in his fifties and was a founding member of The Clean, The Chills and The Great Unwashed.
The University of Otago, Head of the Department of Music, Graeme Downes, said Gutteridge was an institution around Dunedin and will be greatly missed.
He said that Gutteridge had left behind some pearls in the independent music scene.
