Consumer confidence edging up - poll

Consumers have remained upbeat, with confidence edging up.

The ANZ-Roy Morgan Consumer Confidence monthly index rose two points to 127.7 in September, with a reading above 100 indicating optimism.

ANZ's economists said confidence was off from its highs earlier in the year but respondents remained positive.

They said slightly more households felt better off financially amid easing economic growth and expected the economy and their wealth to improve in the coming years.

The bank's composite gauge, which combines the consumer and business confidence surveys, has indicated economic growth of 5 percent, which ANZ's economists said was far too optimistic.
