Villagers in parts of Fiji's Ra province and Nadarivatu have this week been connected to new sources of electricity.
Several solar powered rural electrification projects have benefitted dozens of families
The Infrastructure Minister, Praveen Bala, said the projects meant people in these areas no longer needed to depend on diesel generators.
He said the clean and renewable energy for these rural communities falls in line with what Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama had been advocating in his capacity as COP23 president.
Mr Bala called on the communities to maximise the opportunties provided by the new sources of electricity to improve their standards of living.
