18:00 pm on 3 May 2010

The new Health and Disability Commissioner has been named. It is Anthony Hill, currently a deputy director-general at the Ministry of Health.

The appointment was announced on Monday by Health Minister Tony Ryall.

Mr Hill, who's a lawyer, has been in his current post for the past five and a half years and is also a former chief legal adviser at the ministry.

He takes over from Ron Paterson, who stepped down in March after 10 years in the job to take up a chair in law at Auckland University.
