The Fijian coalition government says it will recall all personnel from its high commissions and embassies around the world, and remove some while redeploying other diplomatic staff.

Prime minister Sitiveni Rabuka on Thursday announced the new government wants to have ambassadors and high commissioners "who speak comfortably about the policies" of his administration.

Rabuka, who is also the Foreign Affairs Minister, has made a raft of policy decisions to align with the three-party coalition's vision of a government that is more responsive to the needs of the people.

Fiji maintains diplomatic relations with 178 countries.

According to the foreign affairs ministry, Fiji's resident missions overseas include four high commissions, including one in Wellington, five embassies, and two permanent missions.
