The retail workers union says the case of Covid-19 - which has emptied Auckland's CBD this morning - shows workers need more sick leave.

The woman was told to isolate after taking a Covid-19 test, but the Ministry of Health says that following "a discussion" with her manager she went to work wearing a mask.

Her employer has since denied this.

Either way, the union says, the case is evidence that workers are being forced to balance health advice with the pressure to cover for inadequare staffing.
