Fiji regime welcomes positive tourism survey

Fiji's interim government has welcomed the results of an online poll that found Fiji was safer for Australian families than the United States or Britain.

The poll, published on an Australian-based website, asked its readers to list the safest destination for families out of a list of five.

Of the several thousand who responded, Fiji was named as the safest by about 26 per cent, ahead of Vanuatu, Britain, the US and the Indonesian islands Bali.

The interim prime minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, says the survey shows Fiji is moving in the right direction and that it continues to be a safe tourist destination with visitors well looked after.
