Solomons Police Commissioner says situation right for economic growth

11:25 am on 3 November 2004

Solomon Islands Commissioner of Police, William Morrell, says he is satisfied with the security situation on the Guadalcanal Plains as Government and landowners complete a Memorandum of Understanding with an overseas company to reopen the oil palm plantation.

Mr Morrell says the law and order situation on the plains has stabilised enough to allow for economic activity.

"Things are looking good, and hopefully, as the police, the RSIP, woking closely with the PPF. and as we get more resouces and better trained police officers, then we can provide the security and the safety that are necessary."
