Japan has given Tonga two million US dollars in aid.

Japan's senior vice-minister for foreign affairs, Norio Mitsuya, says the aid will allow Tonga to address its economic and social needs by making use of the technology of Japan's small and medium sized enterprises.

The Tongan government says the aid will further strengthen mutual relations and continue to promote cooperation between both countries.
