The former world numer seven France's Gael Monfils has won through to quarterfinals of the Heineken Tennis Open in Auckland beating Australia qualifier Greg Jones in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.
Jones eliminated seventh seed Jurgen Melzer in the first round.
The fourth seeded American Sam Querry's had a straight sets win over Belgian wild card Olivier Rochus, while second seed Phillip Kohlschreiber was forced to three sets by Colombia's Alejandro Falla, eventually winning 7-6, 4-6, 6-3.
He will play Belgian Xavier Malisse in the quartefinal tomorrow.
The top seed David Ferrer from Spain, bidding to win a win a third straight title, plays his opening match tonight as does third seed Tommy Haas of Germany.
