A woman has died, following a crash on State Highway 1 into Wellington yesterday afternoon.
The crash occurred under the Newlands bridge over-ramp, and the car caught fire.
The woman was the only person in the car and was taken to Wellington Hospital but died early this morning.
The crash caused significant traffic delays in southbound lanes around 5pm yesterday with Waka Kotahi NZTA tweeting that traffic was backed up to Churton Park. The road was closed while the Serious Crash Unit investigated but it had fully reopened by 6.40pm.
