Television New Zealand continues to refuse to answer questions about the resignation of one of its Breakfast presenters, Kamahl Santamaria, who quit the state broadcaster at the weekend.

In an email sent to staff this afternoon, seen by RNZ, Paul Yurisich acknowledged it had been an anxious few days for the organisation.

"I want to acknowledge how difficult it has been with us in the spotlight - and especially for those who have been phoned or messaged by others in the media and for those in the newsroom."

However, TVNZ will not be commenting to any media, including 1 News, on any individual's employment matters, he said.

"I realise this is challenging given all the external interest," he said in the email.

He also praised the Breakfast team who has been "at the centre of so much and I salute their mahi this morning".

In announcing Santamaria's departure at the weekend after just 31 days with the state broadcaster, TVNZ said it was because of a "personal matter".

Stuff has since reported he quit after at least one female in the newsroom complained about inappropriate behaviour.

Women claiming to have worked with Santamaria at Al Jazeera have also posted allegations about the journalist on social media following news of his resignation.

He resigned from Al Jazeera after 16 years to take up the TVNZ job.

Broadcasting Minister Kris Faafoi has been made aware of the situation through a "no surprises approach" from TVNZ.

A spokesperson said TVNZ has assured him the situation is being managed appropriately with the correct support in place for those involved.
