ICC cracks dwon on drug testing

13:37 pm on 17 July 2010

International cricketers will be required to provide information about their whereabouts from next month, to enable out-of-competition drug testing.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) chief executive, Haroon Lorgat, says an international registered testing pool of players will be set up from August the first, in accordance with World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) rules.

Mr Lorgat says the ICC now has a tough and practical set of rules that will support their zero-tolerance approach to doping in cricket.

Although cricket hasn't been affected by the drug problems which have blighted other sports, the Pakistan pace bowler Mohammad Asif has tested positive twice for steroids.
