A body has been located north of the Mohaka River mouth in Hawke's Bay.
Police said the body was recovered on Tuesday but formal identification was yet to take place and that may take several days.
The death was not being treated as suspicious and would be referred to the Coroner, police said.
A rāhui has been put on the Mohaka beach/river for the next three days.
