Go-ahead for possible deployment

The Government has given the go-ahead for the Defence Force to undertake contingency training for a possible deployment to Iraq.

Defence Minister Gerry Brownlee said he has accepted the Chief of Defence Force's request to begin training for a possible role in Iraq.

He said training will cover areas such as force protection, cultural awareness and skills relevant to deployment.

The training will take place at Linton and Waiouru.
