A body has been discovered in the water by a member of the public at Papamoa Beach on Friday afternoon.
A police spokesperson said a person found the body in the water at around 12.45pm.
Police are unable to comment further at this time but said that enquiries are ongoing.
A formal identification process is underway, which could take some time.
