Four masked teenagers threatened the store attendant, robbed it and fled in a stolen vehicle.
Northland police responded to reports of the group entering a service station on Western Hills Drive, Whangārei about 9.35pm on Sunday night.
All four, aged 17 and 18, were arrested.
Inspector Maria Nordstrom said the group made off with a number of items and escaped in a stolen vehicle.
The 17-year-old driver failed to stop for police, resulting in a pursuit, shortly after.
The car was brought to a halt with spikes on Western Hills Drive, Kensington.
"The group has then dumped the vehicle and fled on foot onto Bank Street," Nordstrom said.
Three people were arrested.
"The police dog unit has then spent 20 minutes tracking the fourth offender, which resulted in another arrest," she said.
A 17 and 18-year-old have been charged with aggravated robbery and unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle. They will appear in Whangārei District Court on Monday.
And the other 17 and 18-year-old will appear in Whangārei Youth Court. The 17-year-old has been charged with failing to stop, unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, dangerous driving and aggravated robbery. The 18-year-old is facing charges of aggravated robbery and unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle.
