An infant has been diagnosed with the virus, after their family returned from Auckland, where there is a major measles outbreak.

The baby had not yet received the MMR vaccine.

Canterbury District Health Board said anyone at the Christchurch Hospital Emergency Department between Friday 19 July and the following Sunday, should keep isolated until 5 August, unless they have had two MMR vaccinations or are over 50 years of age.

Health officials declared the measles outbreak in Canterbury officially over in May.

More than 200 cases of measles have been confirmed in New Zealand since the start of the year.
