Energy and Resources Minister Dr Megan Woods said the memorandum of cooperation marked the start of collaboration on a key future fuel option.

New Zealand had abundant renewable energy, she said, and it could be used to produce low-carbon hydrogen for export.

"This cooperation between us and Singapore, one of our most trusted, reliable, and long-standing partners in Asia, is significant," she said.

Woods signed the agreement with Singapore's Second Minister for Trade and Industry Dr Tan See Leng.

It is New Zealand's second hydrogen arrangement after one signed with Japan in 2018.
