Driver faces charges after pursuit

07:59 am on 18 May 2014

A Wainuiomata man is to face serious driver-related charges after a pursuit around Lower Hutt last night in a stolen vehicle.

Police said the man drove past officers investigating the vehicle theft and was pursued down the Wainuiomata Hill, driving over two sets of road spikes that deflated the vehicle's tyres.

They said he then drove around Lower Hutt for 20 minutes at low speed on the steel rims of the tyres before eventually being forced to stop.

The man, who police said recorded a breath alcohol level nearly twice the allowable limit, will appear in the Lower Hutt District Court this week.
