Man charged with murder of Ōpōtiki Mongrel Mob Barbarians president Steven Taiatini

A 50-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Ōpōtiki Mongrel Mob Barbarians president Steven Taiatini.

Taiatini was killed when he was hit by a ute on Saint John Street in Ōpōtiki, after an altercation late on 9 June.

A man previously charged with perverting the course of justice has now been charged with Taiatini's murder and is due in the Whakatāne District Court on Tuesday.

A 19-year-old man and a 41-year-old man remain before the courts on other charges linked to the homicide probe.
