A woman has died after being struck by a truck and trailer in Ōtāne, in central Hawke's Bay.
The 38-year-old woman was walking when she was struck by the vehicle heading south on SH2 at around 4.30pm, police said in a statement.
The road was expected to reopen around 9.30pm.
Police said they are interested in speaking to anyone who witnessed the crash, and anyone with information is urged to contact police on 105, quoting event number P048361676.
The Serious Crash Unit has examined the scene.
