Police investigating the theft of veterinary euthanasia drugs in Palmerston North have issued a warning to the community.
In a statement, police said Pentobarbitone, a drug used to euthanise animals, was stolen from a vehicle overnight in Palmerston North on Wednesday.
Police said the drug was a high-risk substance and could be lethal if ingested.
Anyone who found discarded bottles of the medicine were urged to leave them and contact police immediately.
Police are appealing for information from anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the Roslyn area between 10pm Wednesday 2 November and 7.30am Thursday 3 November.
Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact police on 105 or online using the 'Update my Report' tool, quoting file number 221103/0923.
