The Kent Online website said Leslie Leathley was handed over to Kent police officers at Auckland International Airport yesterday.

Mr Leathley is charged with 10 counts of child sex offences committed in the 1970s and '80s in the region of Medway in Kent.

In August, Stuff reported that Mr Leathley had been living in Napier, and that he had consented to an extradition order being made.

He is due to appear in court in the UK in October.
