A PNG kava supplier is lobbying for Fiji's government to change its kava import laws.

Ocean Kava Limited managing director, Bilaki Enape Waizepa, spoke to RNZ Pacific's Lydia Lewis on the sidelines of the pacific islands Forum leaders' summit in Tonga following the launch of the 'Kava Strategy' which aims to protect kava as a property of the Pacific.

Mr Waizepa says at the moment only roots can be sent to Fiji from PNG not powdered Kava.

Lydia stared off by asking about PNG's kava journey.
