Nauru's President Baron Waqa says his Government will not be diverted from its reform agenda by what it calls the scandalous behaviour of opposition MPs who he says are putting their own political campaign ahead of the national interest.
He claims that on Thursday former President Sprent Dabwido and another Opposition MP, Squire Jeremiah, were swearing on radio and TV, abusing the Speaker, and destroying equipment.
This came after 3 senior Opposition members were suspended from Parliament earlier this week - in one case calling in police to remove former finance and foreign minister Dr Kieren Keke.
Mr Waqa says the media in New Zealand and Australia has fallen for opposition lies, hook, line and sinker.
He claims his government is the first in many years to make tough decisions and reform the way Nauru operates.
But one of the measures it took this week was to quash a leadership code bill which was intended to call the country's leaders to account.
