A review has begun in Fiji of the minimum wage currently set at $US1.61.
The government says a nationwide survey of employers and workers began this week.
A professor of economics at the University of the South Pacific Partha Gangopadhyay is leading the review.
The Fiji Trades Union Congress has been campaigning to have the $FJ2.32 hourly wage set in 2015 raised to $F4.
The government said Dr Gangopadhyay had over 20 years of experience in economics research and had authored leading research on poverty, labour markets and employment conditions.
After the survey there will be nationwide consultations on the wage review.
