Fire crews are battling a fire at an old school near Greymouth.

Crews were called to the old intermediate school on Tainui Street around 12.40pm.
A large building that was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived is now under control.
The stretch of State Highway 6 near the fire is closed but detours are in place.
